Frequently Asked Questions
-
Therapy gives you a space to explore present difficulties and what you might need in order to move forward or make changes in your life.
It’s a place to think about past experiences and what the impact of these might be on your life today. Often how we relate and respond to others is influenced by the patterns established in our younger years. These ways of being can have ripple effects through to the present day and impact relationships in all sorts of ways.
Coming to counselling and being curious about your experiences can lead to greater understanding of your own self, your emotions and patterns of behaviour. In getting to know yourself better it allows you to identify how you feel, what you want and, as a result, the actions you may wish to take.

This conversation is an opportunity for you to outline why you are seeking counselling and see if I am the right therapist for you. I will also ask a few questions about what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping to get out of it.
The call takes about 20-30 minutes and is free of charge.

The first session is slightly different in that I will ask a few questions about you and your life and may make some notes. I will also ask for some personal details which will be stored securely.
Subsequent sessions will be led by you, with you bringing whatever experiences, thoughts or feelings you wish to explore.

Sessions are 50 minutes and cost £60.

We will meet for 50 minutes at the same time and the same day each week.

Therapy can be open-ended or it can be focused on a particular issue and restricted to a specific number of sessions. There are no rules; we can discuss this in our initial call.
-
Counselling sessions are strictly confidential. The only exception would be if I considered there to be a danger to yourself or to others. In this circumstance I would seek to discuss my concerns with you and who we may need to contact.
Any records I hold are stored securely and remain confidential.

If we arrange to work online I will send you a Teams link. As with in-person sessions, therapy will take place at the same time and same day of the week.
Some clients prefer to have therapy online from the comfort of their home, particularly if they have accessibility issues or are not local to Hurstpierpoint.
